Question by JustAskin: What are the fees for PayPal Merchant Services?
I just switched from personal to business PayPal account, but I’m beginning to think I made a mistake. Are there monthly fees to accept credit cards on eBay through PayPal? Or, are there just % rates for each transaction?

There are 2 different business accounts. The merchant acct and the plain business acct. These are only so the buyer can use a credit card and not have a paypal acct.

Did you know that you will be charged $ 30 a month for a merchant acct? For some reason the business acct doesn’t have the $ 30 monthy fee.

I see that there are fees if you accept the credit card directly from your site, instead of through paypal. https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-pro-fees
If these are close to what paypal takes already, it isn’t too bad.

It is kind of confusing on the website. I would call and talk to a human and ask what the costs and advantages there are to each type of account.

Honestly, I wouldn’t sign up for a business or merchant account until I was bringing in some good business. If I was making at least $ 1000 a Month in sales, then I would consider it. Also, I would take a poll and have customers let me know if they don’t have paypal and can only pay with a card. If I had over 20 people tell me that in a month, THEN I would do it. Also, I would make sure that I am making at least a certain percentage profit on each item 1st. 3.2% is average what paypal takes, so to make a profit, I would want at least a 10% mark up, but I don’t like to sell anything unless I’m getting a minimum of 30% mark up.
